Newcastle United might sell three players in 2024, including the “incredible” £20 million star.

Just like in 2023, there will be plenty more comings and goings at Newcastle United in 2024.

The Magpies started the year with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood on the books, but they have been replaced with players like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.

This Newcastle United squad will continue to evolve in 2024, as the Toon owners look to build on an incredible 2022/23 campaign that saw the club qualify for the Champions League.

Eddie Howe and co will want to be in Europe’s elite competition again next season, and to do that we will need a stronger squad. And with fresh faces potentially arriving, some of the current crop might have to leave.

Here are three players who are at risk of being sold by Newcastle in 2024

Javi Manquillo

Whether Newcastle decide to sell him or let him leave for absolutely nothing, Javi Manquillo looks on course to leave the club in 2024.

That is because his contract at St James’ Park is due to expire at the end of the season, and there is surely no way that he will receive an extension.

Manquillo is currently the fourth choice right-back on Tyneside, with Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth ahead of him in the pecking order.

In an ideal world, Newcastle will sell him in January, as that will at least mean they get some money back on the man who cost £4.5million in 2017 back when Rafa Benitez was manager.

Matt Targett

Another full-back who is at risk of leaving Newcastle in 2024 is Matt Targett.

The defender has had a bit of a torrid time since becoming a permanent Magpie last year. The 28-year-old cost £15million from Aston Villa, but has struggled with injuries ever since. He has barely had a proper run in the team since his impressive loan spell, with Dan Burn replacing him at left-back.

Whether it is Newcastle deciding to cash in or Targett seeking first-team football elsewhere, it would not be a surprise if he moves clubs in 2024 following talk of an exit during the summer.

Callum Wilson

This one is the most controversial, and it will all depend on whether or not Newcastle sign another forward.

With both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak struggling with injuries this season, there has been renewed talk over another forward moving to St James’ Park.

Whoever does arrive will be someone much younger, with the view to eventually taking Wilson’s place in the squad. That could hinder Wilson’s minutes on the pitch, and he is someone who wants to be the main man up top.

The ‘incredible‘ number nine turns 32 in February, and he is perhaps someone who could leave the club in 2024.

Given his goal scoring ability in the Premier League, he is a saleable asset who the club could consider letting go. There would be plenty of suitors for the £20million man, and that could massively help in terms of FFP – just like it did when Allan Saint-Maximin left earlier this year.
