AFC Bournemouth 3-0 Fulham: Marco Silva – ‘Fulham punished after making simple mistakes’
Fulham manager Marco Silva believes his side committed “simple mistakes” that led to a 3-0 loss at Bournemouth also stating that the side’s performance “is not good enough”.
Bournemouth’s unbeaten record in the Premier League now stands at seven games after a 3-0 victory over Fulham on Boxing Day.
After Justin Kluivert opened the scoring just before halftime due to a driving move from the excellent Alex Scott (44), Solanke’s 62nd-minute penalty increased Bournemouth’s lead.
Bournemouth have not lost since November 4, and a run of 22 points from the previous 27 available has seen Andoni Iraola’s team leap from 19th to 10th in the table in only eight weeks.
Fulham, who arrived on the south coast following two consecutive defeats, never looked like upsetting the hosts, and their afternoon was made even worse when substitute Luis Sinisterra’s magnificent strike from the outskirts of the box deep into stoppage time made it 3-0.
As if that wasn’t enough, goalkeeper Bernd Leno became the day’s pantomime villain after gently pushing a Bournemouth ball boy for waiting too long to return the ball for a goal-kick late in the second half.
At the following break in play, Leno instantly apologized to the boy, but he was booed by the home fans for the rest of the game. The defeat maintains Fulham in 13th place, six points above the drop zone.
How Bournemouth strolled to yet another victory
The Boxing Day match was Bournemouth’s first at home since Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch on December 16, and a pre-match on-screen tribute honored those who had come to the Wales international’s aid, including Cherries midfielder Philip Billing, who was widely praised for his quick reaction.
