Midfielder for the Plymouth Argyle on loan is back at Everton following injury
Lewis Warrington, a midfielder for Plymouth Argyle who was on loan, has returned to Everton in order to have his knee injury evaluated. Although the 21-year-old’s need for surgery is still unknown, Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip said that Warrington “could be out for quite a while.”
Warrington, who only made four appearances for the Pilgrims this season—two of which were in the Championship—joined Argyle late in the preseason after leaving Everton.
Dewsnip said: “He has gone back to Everton for rehab, could be out for quite a while I’m afraid. He has got a knee problem so they are assessing whether he needs surgery or not, they don’t know yet.”
Warrington was signed by former Argyle manager Steven Schumacher to compete with Jordan Houghton for the central midfield holding role in his team. However, the form of Houghton has been so good and consistent that Warrington has hardly had a look in. His last match was when he started the 4-1 defeat away to Bristol City on September 19.
Asked whether Warrington’s time at Argyle was over, Dewsnip replied: “I think that’s too soon to say simply because we don’t know the nature of the injury but I’m sure that will be a discussion when we find out what the facts are.”
Should Warrington not return to Argyle they will have two loan spots available for them to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, instead of one as is currently the case.
