Report: Leeds confirms contact to sign a £5.2m left-back in January…

Leeds United transfer news as January talks begin for Josh Doig already

Leeds United have been in contact with Hellas Verona over a potential £5.2million deal to bring left-back Josh Doig to Elland Road in January, according to Toro Goal. The Italian media outlet with over 25,000 followers on Instagram, followed on from Gianluca Di Marzio to say that Leeds, Rangers and Monza are among clubs interested.

It was also reported that Italian intermediaries are working to find Doig a transfer in January, with Torino having held new discussions over a potential deal already.

One to watch At just 21 years old, Doig already has plenty of experience in first-team football, making 32 league appearances for the Serie A club since he joined from Hibernian in 2022, where he had played 62 Scottish Premiership games. That top-division experience will lend itself to whichever club he ends up in, with plenty of interest in his signature heading into the January transfer window, and with a £5.2million asking price which would likely be affordable to a club in Leeds’ position.

With Junior Firpo suffering from repeated injury struggles, and Sam Byram also falling foul of injury blows as has been the story of his career, Leeds will look to find a reliable first-team left-back to help see out their bid for promotion this season.

Having already represented Scotland at Under-21 level, Doig should be looking to take a step up in his career with an eye on making the senior squad for the Euros, and an impressive Championship campaign with Leeds could be the perfect springboard.
