Exclusive: Sunderland leading race to sign “terrific” player for Beale..
Sunderland are said to be winning the race to recruit an in-demand target for Michael Beale, according to one reputable source.
Sunderland January rumors
The new Black Cats manager suffered a humiliating FA Cup defeat to rivals Newcastle United over the weekend, but said there had been transfer talks about one or two potential arrivals before the game.
“We discussed the January timeframe during our early talks, and it has remained ongoing. Stuart Harvey, the head of recruiting, is someone I knew before I came here, and the recruitment process here consists of a group of us gathering in a room and discussing our possibilities.
“We have a clear understanding of one or two areas we would like to improve this month, if possible. It’s never an easy month, but we’ll do our best to enhance and bolster the squad, as well as excite the supporters. Those conversations are ongoing in the background. This (derby) game has been a bit of a diversion, to be honest, but those discussions continued even (Tuesday) morning and late afternoon.”

Left-back Bohdan Mykhaylichenko has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light and may leave Dinamo Zagreb as a free agent. AFC Bournemouth forward Kieffer Moore has also been linked with a loan move, and an encouraging update has emerged.
Kieffer Moore Transfer Update
According to reputable writer Alan Nixon, who shared information on his Patreon and communicated it to Football League World, Sunderland are leading the battle to capture Moore from Bournemouth, with four Championship clubs also associated with the Wales international.
According to reports, the Black Cats have made significant efforts to complete the signing of the forward, which they are reportedly hoping to achieve swiftly.
Moore played for the Cherries in an FA Cup triumph over Queens Park Rangers, scoring in a 3-2 comeback. That was the 31-year-old’s second goal of the season under Andoni Iraola, despite just playing 236 minutes of football this season. (Kieffer Moore stats, Transfermarkt)
Former Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy praised the scorer throughout his career, saying in 2021:
“He’s been great. Furthermore, when he hasn’t scored, he has played practically every minute of every game. Every week, he puts in a tremendous shift. We don’t have a clear replacement for him, thus he has played all of the games.
“Testimony to it is that he knows we don’t have a straight successor and that he will play all of the games, but he doesn’t let up; he keeps going. He’s been fantastic. A genuine menace and a really effective centre forward.”
Beating a lot of Championship opponents to win the race for Moore might be a wise move as the season goes, and with the club scoring fewer than 11 second-tier sides so far, Moore’s possible arrival could help them finish in the top six.
