How Sunderland’s two stars got fared for U21s side against Nottingham Forest
Sunderland U21s defeated Nottingham Forest U21s at Meadow Lane on Friday night, with Eliezer Mayenda and Timothee Pembele in action.
Eliezer Mayenda and Timothee Pembele each played 90 minutes as Sunderland’s under-21s defeated Nottingham Forest 5-0 at Meadow Lane on Friday night.
Mayenda began the scoring in the Premier League 2 game after only 19 minutes, and he added a second after Tom Watson and Michael Spellman scored in the first half.
Caden Kelly, who had been sidelined with an injury, came off the bench in the second half and scored Graeme Murty’s fifth goal in stoppage time. The result put the young Black Cats up to sixth place in the table, ahead of their Premier League Cup match against Peterborough on Sunday, January 21.
Mayenda has now started consecutive games for the under-21s, and he came off the bench for the first team’s final five minutes against Preston on New Year’s Day. Pembele has been off the bench for the senior team against Rotherham and Preston, but he is being managed back after a long injury layoff.
