Bills receive huge injury news on 24-year-old LB..
After being carted off with a towel over his head in Monday’s 31-17 playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard appeared to have sustained a significant injury.
Bills coach Sean McDermott later stated that he had no updates on Bernard, who had been sent in for X-rays to assess what the team described as an ankle issue. However, just after the postgame press conferences, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke some news that will give Bills supporters a tremendous sigh of relief as they prepare to face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional on Sunday. © Kirby Lee, USA Today. © Kirby Lee, USA Today. According to Rapoport, Bernard’s X-Rays came back negative, and he is “believed” to have an ankle injury.
“Bills standout LB Terrel Bernard, who has emerged as one of their top defenders, has what appears to be an ankle strain, according to a source. Rapoport tweeted, “X-rays were negative; MRI tomorrow.” This is major news for Buffalo’s defense, given Bernard’s importance this season and the Bills’ need to be as healthy as possible against Mahomes and the Chiefs. Of course, Bernard’s fate for next week remains unknown, as ankle sprains can still be bad enough to require lost time.
However, Bernard did not break or tear anything and may be able to return if the Bills advance in the playoffs. Bernard, a third-round choice from Baylor in the 2022 draft, has 143 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, five passes defended, and three interceptions in 17 games this season, marking a breakout year.
