Nottingham Forest rejects bids despite Premier League charge, as strategy reveals…
Nottingham Forest wants to make a statement to the Premier League by selling players this month after they were accused for breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Nottingham Forest have turned down loan bids for midfielder Orel Mangala, despite their aim to impress the Premier League by prioritising sales this month.
Forest is determined to demonstrate that they are taking Financial Fair Play requirements seriously after being accused with violating Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) earlier this week. While Nuno Espirito Santo has lost six crucial players to the Africa Cup of Nations, Evangelos Marinakis has been obliged to abandon the club’s scattergun approach to transfer business, and reinforcements are expected to arrive this winter once departures are approved.
Internally, there is also understanding that Forest should reduce their bloated squad, as players are now earning high salaries despite limited playing time. Furthermore, Nuno loves to work with a close-knit squad to maximize performance, as he did at Wolves.
Mangala, a Belgium international who has played only three minutes in Forest’s last two Premier League games and cost just over £11 million when he joined from Stuttgart in July 2022, is one of the players who could be let go in the coming weeks.
Galatasaray, the Turkish giants, have already had a loan plus buy option deal rejected this season. Rennes, a French club, recently made a similar proposition with an obligation to buy, but they have yet to reach an agreement with Forest.
Jamie Carragher provides his assessment on Everton’s FFP woes and shifts blame from the Premier League.
Rennes is seeking a successor for Nemanja Matic, a former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder who is looking to leave the Ligue 1 club after his father’s untimely death. Napoli has also held formal talks with 25-year-old Mangala, while Juventus inquired before deciding not to finance any new signings this month.
Forest will examine bids for both Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna, who were left out by previous manager Steve Cooper. Rangers have expressed interest in McKenna, but they have yet to make an official offer to sign the 27-year-old.
Nuno Tavares, who is on loan from Arsenal, might also have his future examined after failing to make an impression since joining the Tricky Trees last summer. The same goes for Divock Origi. Hull City, the Championship club, has also shortlisted USMNT goalie Ethan Horvath.
Nuno stated on transfer activity earlier this week: “There are particular roles that we require, [but] at the same time, we need to rebalance the team in terms of numbers. So, ins and outs, we must exercise caution since we do not want to make any decisions before all of the facts are clear.
“Can we find a solution for the players who are leaving? It’s a lot of effort, so there needs to be a level of care. Getting the players you want in the middle of the season might be difficult at times. We have to organize the team, and it’s difficult to select the correct targets.”
