Brighton v Wolves – 12 ruled out and 1 doubt so far…

Wolves travel to the American Express Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Monday (January 22).

Gary O’Neil’s side play the second of two games this week after being afforded a break last weekend. Wolves played 120 minutes against Brentford, defeating them in extra time thanks to a Matheus Cunha penalty.

A fourth round tie against West Brom has now been confirmed, but the focus in the mean time will be on getting a result against the Seagulls. Brighton like Wolves were afforded a rest this week, and they did not need an replay to eliminate Stoke City earlier this month. The Seagulls have made use of the break and have gone on a warm weather training camp and will now continue their preparations back in Sussex. The Africa Cup of Nations and the Asia Cup is on this month, and both clubs have players away on international duty. Hee-Chan Hwang was called up for South Korea but missed their opening game with a hip problem. Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra meanwhile have linked up with Japan and the Ivory Cost respectively despite nursing injuries going into the tournament.

The two sides aren’t too far apart in the table with Brighton in eighth on 31 points and Wolves in 11th on 28 points. A win for Wolves probably wouldn’t be enough to overtake them considering the goal swing but it would give them their first league win of 2024, having only played in the FA Cup this year. Brighton meanwhile drew 0-0 with West Ham on January 2nd. O’Neil and his opposite counterpart Roberto De Zerbi will speak on Friday, but no major pieces of injury news are expected to break. Roberto De Zerbi stated before Stoke that the flying full back will be out for another five weeks. He’s dealing with a thigh injury.

7. Joao Gomes – out

Suspended after a straight red card against Brentford

8. Ansu Fati – out

He can return to training very soon. He is nursing a thigh injury and is expected back in mid-February.

9. Kaoru Mitoma – out

Did not feature for Japan in their win against Vietnam in the Asian Cup last Sunday. If Japan reach the final on Feb 10 Mitoma could return on Feb 18 at Sheffield United

10. Simon Adingra – out

Travelled to the AFCON despite his hamstring injury and is not expected to feature in Ivory Coast’s first two fixtures.

11. Igor Julio – doubt

Nursing an injury that ruled him out against West Ham. Doubtful for this one.

12. Solly March – out

Continues his lengthy rehab from a serious injury. He is in light training but remains some way off match fitness
