Birmingham City begins negotiations to sign 28-year-old Blackburn Rovers
Sam Gallagher, a striker for Blackburn Rovers, is reportedly interested in joining Birmingham City, sources informed Football Insider this month.
Tony Mowbray, the manager of the Blues, has his sights set on the 28-year-old and has made finding a new striker a high priority in January.
In order to bring Gallagher to St Andrew’s Stadium for the duration of the 2023–24 campaign, Birmingham is presently negotiating a loan agreement.
As Mowbray attempts to bring in his second signing since taking over at Birmingham, talks are still in the early stages.
Andre Dozzell was Mowbray’s first acquisition at Birmingham City, as Football Insider reported, following an agreement to sign the QPR star.
Last Monday, January 8, the Blues hired Mowbray to take Wayne Rooney’s place after Rooney was fired.
Birmingham and Swansea drew 2-2 in the 60-year-old’s first match as manager of the Championship team on Saturday.
Birmingham has only scored 32 goals in 27 games, which keeps them 20th in the Championship standings even though they have gained a point.
For the second half of the season, Mowbray will be hoping that Gallagher’s arrival will give his attacking force department more depth and potency.
Despite making seven appearances this season and scoring twice, the Rovers striker has found it difficult to get into games under Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Since September, Gallagher has only made one league appearance for Blackburn; in recent games, Harry Leonard has been favored up front.
In 215 games overall, Gallagher has helped Rovers score 45 goals and provide 21 assists.
In other developments, Birmingham feels the bite of Kieran Maguire’s harsh owners verdict on the “sexy” Rooney transaction.
