When Michael Carrick decides on Morgan Rogers, he reacts to transfer offers from Aston Villa…
Aston Villa’s interest in Morgan Rogers led to his selection to start Middlesbrough’s Championship match against Rotherham United on Saturday.
This week, Boro turned down two offers from Villa for the 21-year-old attacker. Additionally, Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick made his stance known by selecting Rogers in his squad for the game at The Riverside Stadium, while Unai Emery considers making a third attempt to sign the former Manchester City young player.
Despite Villa’s interest, there were doubts about Rogers’ availability against the Millers; yet, Carrick started him in the attacking role.
Rogers only signed a four-year contract with Boro from Man City in the summer, and the Championship team is reportedly sticking to their assessment of the player.
Rogers is reportedly thrilled about the prospect of playing for Villa in the Premier League this month, and Boro are reportedly willing to let him go during the January transfer window if their price is fulfilled.

In the January transfer window, Aston Villa’s top objective is to sign Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers.
Both of Villa’s previous offers for Rogers, which were made on Thursday, were rejected by Boro because they were lower than the Championship club’s asking price for the 21-year-old. Though he only joined the team in July, Boro will allow the Halesowen-born star to leave the Riverside if Villa meet their asking price.
After moving from Manchester City to the Teeside club in the summer, Rogers is halfway through a four-year contract. In the event that the forward leaves the Boro, the Premier League winners will get a portion of the transfer fee because they negotiated a sell-on clause.
Although he won’t push a move, it is thought that Rogers is thrilled about the prospect of working with Unai Emery at Villa this month. Unless there is a change in circumstances, he is anticipated to be included in the Middlesbrough squad for Saturday’s match against Rotherham United. He practiced normally with his teammates on Friday.
Villa employees Steve Hopscroft and Mark Harrison, the club’s youth manager, are familiar with Rogers. Villa has been keeping an eye on several gifted young players, and Emery is drawn to Rogers’ profile because he wants to add individuals to his team who will grow under his tutelage.
Rogers was one of the nation’s most exciting prospects when he left West Brom to join Man City in 2019, at the age of just 17. Since then, he has been on loan at Blackpool, Bournemouth, and Lincoln, where in 2021 he scored four goals and registered six assists to help the Imps go to the League One play-off final.
Following the rejection of their second offer, Villa is anticipated to make a stronger bid upon their return.
