Nottingham Forest make huge alternative on Ivan Toney goal controversy amid VAR complaint..
Nottingham Forest have reportedly written to PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb following Ivan Toney’s questionable goal in Brentford’s 3-2 Premier League triumph over the Reds on Saturday.
The striker marked his return to play following an eight-month suspension with a free-kick goal at the Gtech Community Stadium. Toney’s goal cancelled out Danilo’s early opener as Brentford went on to win 3-2.
Toney was noticed changing the placing of the ball to the right in order to gain a clear sight of Forest’s goal around the wall. The tactic worked as the England international deposited the ball into the back of the net to leave Matt Turner powerless.
Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo had made his displeasure known on Toney’s antics, calling for VAR to check the goal. He said: “It was ball displacement. The law is clear, every goal must be reviewed and every situation that leads to a goal must be checked. I don’t sure whether they checked, but that is ball displacement.
“I was also surprised the players didn’t complain about it. I think we have to be a little bit more mature in such situation, since it affects the location of the wall and then it is a soft ball. Everyone in the spectators thinks it is a mistake of the wall with its position, but it was a definite ball displacement – not only inches, it is a yard almost.”
Now, according to Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett, the Reds have written to Webb in an attempt to receive explanation regarding why the striker was allowed to move the ball. It’s said that Forest wants answers on if VAR could have interfered and whether Toney had infringed rules.
