Millwall agrees to sign Premier League ‘Electric striker’ on loan..
Millwall is reportedly on the verge of securing a loan deal for Burnley striker Michael Obafemi until the end of the season, as per information from Fabrizio Romano. Obafemi has faced challenges in getting playing time under Vincent Kompany this season, leading to Millwall reaching an agreement in principle for the loan move. The Ireland international is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days to finalize the deal.
Obafemi’s season has been hindered by a hamstring injury, limiting him to just two appearances since his return, and he has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team. Since joining Burnley on loan from Swansea City midway through the previous season, the striker has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter at Turf Moor.
Millwall, currently positioned 18th in the Championship table and eight points above the relegation places, aims to bolster its squad for the second half of the season. Obafemi, with his extensive experience in the second tier, having featured for both Burnley and Swansea 63 times and scored 17 goals, could be a valuable addition. The Dublin-born forward has also represented Ireland eleven times, scoring twice.
With Millwall’s current top scorer, Kevin Nisbet, having netted only five goals, there is a clear need for additional firepower. Obafemi is expected to compete with Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw for a place in the starting eleven.
The Lions, managed by Joe Edwards, are set to face Preston North End on Saturday at The Den, and if all goes well with the medical, they could have Obafemi in the squad for that match. The completion of the agreement is contingent on the successful medical examination and the formal signing of the contract.
In the writer’s view,
Obafemi, a talented striker when fit, could prove to be a significant asset for Millwall if he can maintain his fitness levels. Known for his pace, goal-scoring ability, and powerful strikes, he could provide the team with a valuable offensive threat. Burnley, in turn, may benefit from Obafemi’s performance, either through a potential transfer fee or by welcoming back a player ready to make an impact at the club.
