‘Exclusive’: Brentford considering a loan move for another Tottenham Hotspur £22m super player with Sergio Reguilon…
Journalist Ben Jacobs has hinted that Brentford contemplated securing a loan deal for a Tottenham Hotspur player before eventually acquiring Sergio Reguilon during the January transfer window. Reguilon, initially a Manchester United player, saw his loan at Old Trafford cut short, leading him back to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Although Bournemouth expressed interest in Reguilon, he ultimately joined Brentford on loan as a replacement for the injured Rico Henry.
Brentford had also eyed Bryan Gil earlier in the transfer window. Jacobs, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, revealed that the club had internal discussions about a potential loan move but did not take any action. This consideration arose due to a combination of injuries and players participating in AFCON. Despite their interest, no deal materialized.
Regarding Bryan Gil’s future at Tottenham, the winger appears likely to depart before the deadline. Despite experiencing a varied spell at Tottenham, spending much time on loan, Gil has yet to fully adapt to the Premier League. Ange Postecoglou, the manager, has utilized the £22 million youngster frequently, often as a substitute, with only one instance of him being on the pitch for more than 45 minutes in the Premier League this season.
Postecoglou seems prepared to offload Gil, especially with the arrival of Timo Werner on loan. While Brentford is no longer in contention, unless they consider a permanent deal for Gil, other clubs may express interest in bidding for him before the transfer deadline.
