‘It is quite normal’:Says Millwall boss following a decline in millwall frontman’s form and confidence after a turbulent Summer.
Millwall’s head coach, Joe Edwards, suggests that Kevin Nisbet’s self-assurance has experienced a decline recently, attributing it to a common phase for players adjusting to changes in their football careers. The Scottish international, acquired from Hibernian in the summer, has recorded five goals in 27 appearances, with three coming under Edwards’ tenure. However, he has endured an eight-match goal drought and was substituted in the 56th minute during the recent 2-0 loss to QPR.
Edwards notes that upon his arrival, Nisbet seemed to lack rhythm, possibly influenced by a minor injury at the season’s start. Despite scoring a couple of goals, he lacked the consistent playing time necessary to acclimate to the Championship’s intensity. Edwards believes that adapting to this level is a significant challenge. While Nisbet enjoyed a period of scoring before Christmas, the coach observes a recent dip in form and confidence.
During the QPR match, Edwards felt the overall threat from the team, including the wing-backs, was not as potent as in previous weeks against Leicester and Middlesbrough. Recognizing the need for change when a team appears stuck, he opted to substitute Nisbet with Ryan Longman.
Edwards considers Nisbet’s current struggles as typical for players experiencing their first season in a new league, acknowledging the inevitable highs and lows in form and confidence. He emphasizes the importance of continuous support and assistance to help Nisbet navigate through this challenging phase.
