Report: Michael Beale has made Sunderland’s transfer lifeline available to the Premier League player, who is a hot target..
Perhaps Sunderland has been given a last-ditch opportunity to sign one of its January striker targets.
Sunderland’s primary goal as we approach today’s deadline is to get a new striker.
The team has already finalised the acquisition of defender Leo Hjelde, and they are expected to officially announce the signing of Standard Liege’s Romaine Mundle, a winger.
Thus, the Black Cats’ top priority now appears to be finding a new striker. It appears that they will use their last day on the transfer market to hunt for a new No. 9.
Kieffer Moore is another who has been strongly linked this month; he is rumoured to have been the Black Cats’ priority target.
It was reported a couple of weeks ago that the Black Cats along with Ipswich Town had submitted loan bids for the Bournemouth man, and earlier this week it was revealed that Moore looked set to leave the south coast club before the January deadline, but that he favoured a return to Cardiff City.
Sunderland handed potential Kieffer Moore lifeline
But Sunderland and boss Michael Beale may have just been handed an unexpected lifeline in the race for Moore.
It’s now been revealed that Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of ex-Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou, potentially leaving the coast clear for one of Sunderland, Ipswich, or any other interested club to sign Moore.
But the 40-cap Welsh international is a prolific Championship striker with 47 goals in 155 total appearances in the second tier.
Michael Beale will be praying for a new striker
Be it Moore or another striker, Beale will be praying that his club signs at least one tomorrow.
But, compared to Sunderland’s current striking options anyway, Moore seems like a very exciting signing.
He’s proven in the Championship and on the international stage too, which is a lot more than can be said of the strikers that Sunderland signed last summer.
Beale’s attacking options lack experience and it’s certainly shown this season.
Moore though would not only add that experience, but a huge degree of quality too; he netted 20 Championship goals for Cardiff in the 2021/22 season alone.
And it looks like Cardiff have turned their attentions elsewhere and that can only be a boost for Sunderland where Moore is concerned.
But Sunderland aren’t the only club interested and so if they want to bring him in today, they’ll have to act fast.
What do you think?
