Sunderland receive Steve Cooper’s huge response as Nottingham Forest manager discussed…
Sunderland is actively exploring the possibility of appointing Steve Cooper as their new manager following the dismissal of Michael Beale.
Cooper, who previously managed Nottingham Forest before departing in December, has emerged as a leading candidate for the position at the Stadium of Light.
Darren Bent, discussing the potential move on talkSPORT, expressed surprise at Cooper’s current availability in the job market, considering his perceived caliber.
Bent remarked on the significance of the Sunderland managerial role, suggesting it could have even led to a Premier League opportunity for Cooper given his coaching abilities.
Cooper’s name had previously been linked to other managerial vacancies, notably at Crystal Palace following Roy Hodgson’s departure. However, Crystal Palace ultimately opted for Oliver Glasner instead. Despite this, Cooper remains a sought-after figure in the managerial landscape.
In the interim, Sunderland has appointed Mike Dodds as their interim head coach until the end of the season.
The club’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, expressed disappointment over recent performances and emphasized the need for improvement. Speakman highlighted the club’s commitment to achieving the highest possible league finish and assured supporters that updates would be provided as significant developments unfold.
