Away Birmingham City loanee who is ‘a top goal scorer’ returns to England
Ravel Morrison, the former Birmingham City midfielder, could be eyeing a return to the Championship after parting ways with DC United in MLS, where he was signed by Wayne Rooney. Morrison’s career has taken him on a global journey, spanning Italy, Sweden, Mexico, the Netherlands, and most recently, the United States.
Initially a Manchester United trainee, Morrison had a loan spell at Birmingham City in 2012 under Lee Clark, where he showcased his talent with three goals in 30 appearances. Despite a brief return to Birmingham in 2017 under Harry Redknapp’s management, Morrison failed to secure a contract. However, Redknapp spoke highly of his talent and urged him to make the most of his abilities.
Throughout his career, Morrison has played for various clubs including QPR, Derby, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, and Cardiff. Despite being regarded as a highly talented player by figures such as Rio Ferdinand and Sam Allardyce, Morrison has struggled to fulfill his potential.
Now a free agent at 31, Morrison is linked with a return to England, with Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers, and Peterborough United reportedly interested. These clubs are considering offering him a short-term deal.
In other news, Kevin Long, who recently left Birmingham City, has joined Toronto FC in MLS. Long, who played 40 games for Birmingham, was deemed surplus to requirements under Wayne Rooney but was valued under previous manager John Eustace.
Toronto FC’s head coach John Herdman and general manager Jason Hernandez have expressed excitement about Long’s arrival, highlighting his experience and leadership qualities to strengthen the team’s defense.
