Detroit Pistons dismisses two-way player | Confirmed Trade
According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons have waived first-year player Malcolm Cazalon, who held a two-way contract with the team for the duration of this season.
Before joining the Pistons, Cazalon, a French player, competed overseas. He participated in the Pistons’ Summer League and spent most of the regular season in the G League with the Motor City Cruise, featuring in 26 games across the Winter Showcase and regular season.
Throughout the G League’s regular season, he posted averages of 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, shooting 34.6% from beyond the arc. In the Winter Showcase, he averaged 11.8 points per game while shooting 42.8% from three-point range.
Cazalon’s departure creates an opening for a two-way spot on the Pistons roster, alongside current two-way players Stanley Umude and Jared Rhoden. While Umude and Rhoden have seen more NBA action, with 17 and 6 appearances respectively, Cazalon only briefly featured in one game for the Pistons earlier in the season.
The Pistons’ plans for the newly available two-way spot remain uncertain. One potential candidate for a two-way deal is Tosan Evbuomwan, who is currently on a 10-day contract with the Pistons. Before his stints with the Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies, Evbuomwan played for the Cruise after signing with the Pistons as an undrafted free agent last summer.
If the Pistons wish to retain Evbuomwan, they may need to offer him a rest-of-season contract or a two-way deal, as he has attracted interest from other NBA teams following his previous 10-day contracts.
