Plymouth Argyle Top star sends Wycombe to Wembley – REPORT

Matt Butcher made a significant impact for Wycombe Wanderers, scoring his first goal for the club in their recent semi-final clash against Bradford City in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy. Coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute, Butcher broke the deadlock with a decisive left-footed strike in added time, securing Wycombe’s place in the final at Wembley in April.

This will mark Butcher’s second consecutive EFL Trophy final appearance, having been part of the Plymouth Argyle squad that faced Bolton Wanderers last season, albeit ending in a disappointing 4-0 defeat. With three starts and one substitute appearance since joining Wycombe on January 31, Butcher is eager for better fortunes this time around.

In addition to Butcher’s contribution, another former Plymouth Argyle player, Nigel Lonwijk, also featured for Wycombe as a late substitute against Bradford. Lonwijk, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, joined Wycombe in January after recovering from an injury-plagued spell with Grasshopper Zurich.

Meanwhile, Bradford’s on-loan Argyle attacker Tyreik Wright made a comeback from injury, coming off the bench in the second half against Wycombe.

Wycombe will face League One rivals Peterborough United in the final at Wembley on Sunday, April 7, after Peterborough secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Blackpool in the other semi-final.
