‘No common evidence’ – Everton Icon blasts FFP rules over Nottingham Forest allegation
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes that Nottingham Forest should not be subjected to a points deduction for their alleged breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Wyness, who has previous experience with Everton and Aston Villa, argues that the breach seems minor and that penalizing Forest with a points deduction would be too harsh.
Wyness highlighted that Forest’s player spending, which led to the alleged breach, was not excessive or destabilizing to the league. He emphasized that Forest, like any club, are simply trying to safeguard their investment and compete in the Premier League.
Forest’s situation revolves around their player recruitment, with the club signing a significant number of players upon their return to the top flight. However, Wyness believes that their spending was not egregious and that Forest were merely attempting to secure their place in the Premier League.
Under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, clubs are permitted a maximum loss over a rolling three-year period, with reduced allowances for recently promoted teams. While the extent of Forest’s breach is not yet known, Wyness argues against imposing a points deduction, advocating for a fairer approach.
The process regarding Forest’s alleged breach will be concluded within the same season, with an independent commission set to conduct a hearing by April 8 and any potential punishments applied accordingly.
