Sunderland’s transfer ‘resignation’ as new Premier League interest mounts for crucial player
Sunderland is reportedly prepared for the possibility of Jack Clarke departing the Stadium of Light this summer.
Clarke has been a standout performer for the Black Cats this season, contributing significantly to their push for the Championship playoffs with 15 goals.
Despite interest from clubs such as Lazio, West Ham United, Burnley, and Crystal Palace during the January transfer window, Sunderland successfully retained the 23-year-old. However, Football Insider suggests that the club is less confident about keeping Clarke beyond the current season, with several Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Brentford, reportedly interested in securing his services.
Sunderland’s ability to retain Clarke may hinge on their performance in the playoffs, with promotion likely affording the club greater control over his future. Clarke is under contract for two more seasons, having signed a four-year deal after making his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur permanent in July 2022.
Despite spending time with Spurs, Clarke has yet to make a Premier League appearance, featuring primarily in cup competitions, including the Europa League.
