EXCLUSIVE ;The nine Birmingham City players set to leave St Andrew’s from June onwards….
Birmingham has spent the majority of their time in the Championship’s bottom half since John Eustace’s contentious sacking in October.
Wayne Rooney’s tenure as manager may be considered a catastrophe, since he won only two of fifteen games and was fired after only three months in charge. Tony Mowbray then took over, winning four of his first eight games as the Blues began to recover their form.

Unfortunately, the club just announced that Mowbray will be temporarily stepping away from on-site administration owing to medical issues. Mowbray is likely to be abroad for the next six to eight weeks, therefore Assistant Manager Mark Venus will take over on a temporary basis.
With the club in the bottom half of the table, the season is almost over, therefore they must be planning ahead for next season. Birmingham will have to make some important decisions this summer about which players will stay at St Andrews and which will leave.
Gary Gardner
The 31-year-old’s contract is slated to expire at the end of the season, bringing an end to his six-year stint with the club. Gardner was a mainstay in midfield for the Blues in previous seasons, but he has spent the majority of this season on the bench and appears to be on his way out.
Marc Roberts
A similar narrative to Gardner’s, Roberts was once a mainstay for the Blues but now spends a lot of time on the bench. Roberts’ contract is also set to expire at the conclusion of the season, and if the Blues want to rebuild their roster, they will most likely go elsewhere rather than grant the defender a new contract.
Neil Etheridge Birmingham City
This season, Etheridge has been a backup to John Ruddy in goal, but he is set to become a free agent in the summer, and Birmingham is unlikely to grant him another deal. The 34-year-old joined the Blues in 2020 and could be ending his four-year contract.
Marcel Oakley
Birmingham has two options for Oakley heading into next season. His contract is set to expire in the summer, therefore he could be released or offered a new deal; nevertheless, even if he stays at St Andrews, he will struggle to break into the starting eleven and could be loaned elsewhere. In any case, he is very likely to leave beginning in June.
Bradley Mayo
The 19-year-old goalkeeper joined Birmingham as an Under-9 and worked his way up the club’s youth system before making his professional debut in 2022. Similarly to Oakley, his contract ends in the summer, therefore he will either go as a free agent or continue at St Andrews and most likely be loaned out.
Josh Williams
Josh Williams is another young player who could be on his way out this summer. The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with League One strugglers Cheltenham Town, making only one league start, and Birmingham is unlikely to have much use for him next season. Williams has two years remaining on his deal, so another loan move makes sense.
Alfie Chang
The 21-year-old is one of Birmingham’s most promising young players, but he has missed virtually the entire season due to injuries. When he returns from his injury, the Blues may consider sending him out on loan to get some regular games under his belt.
Jordan James
Birmingham will do an excellent job of keeping James in the summer. The 19-year-old made headlines in January when it was rumored that Serie A club Atalanta was on the verge of signing him. A trade never happened, but the midfielder will be watched closely this summer, with Birmingham valuing him at £10 million.
Lucas Jutkiewicz
Jutkiewicz has been an excellent servant to the club over the previous eight years, but his time at St Andrews may be coming to an end as his contract is set to expire. Everyone can tell that he is no longer the regular striker on whom Birmingham can count to score key goals, having made only a few league appearances this season.
