Mike Dodds acknowledges the ongoing challenge of Nazariy Rusyn’s limited English proficiency, hindering effective communication and potentially impacting his performance on the pitch.

Despite joining Sunderland from Zorya Luhansk with minimal English skills, Rusyn has been endeavoring to learn the language over the past six months. However, he still struggles to converse fluently and comprehend English conversations, posing a hurdle for Dodds and the coaching staff in conveying instructions effectively.

Dodds emphasizes that while Rusyn’s linguistic barrier presents difficulties, it’s not an excuse, praising the player’s dedication and work ethic in training despite the communication challenges.

Rusyn primarily operates as a central striker for Sunderland but has also featured in wide attacking roles. Despite a modest record of two goals in 19 senior appearances, Dodds lauds Rusyn’s commitment and versatility across the frontline.

Regarding Rusyn’s preferred position, Dodds suggests he can excel in any attacking role and highlights his unwavering effort on the pitch. However, he acknowledges the need for improvement in getting Rusyn into more favorable positions during matches.

The lack of striking prowess extends beyond Rusyn, with Sunderland’s attacking options collectively struggling to score goals this season. Dodds acknowledges the challenge of generating goal-scoring opportunities and stresses the importance of a collective effort to enhance offensive output, not solely relying on the strikers to deliver results.
