‘SAD’: With a demoralizing loss to West Ham, Brentford’s relegation struggle becomes more real…
Brentford’s struggle to avoid relegation became unmistakably evident in a disheartening loss to West Ham. The threat of dropping down the league table loomed closer for the Bees as their poor performance continued.
Following a challenging day, Brentford found themselves contemplating the looming battle to stay in the Premier League, particularly after a series of unfortunate events tied to the number four. Just before the match, news broke that Everton had successfully appealed to regain four of the ten points they were penalized earlier in the season for breaching financial regulations. Ironically, this news unfolded as precisely four minutes and four seconds into the game, Brentford conceded the opening goal of what would eventually become a 4-2 defeat to West Ham.
The first goal saw Lucas Paqueta exploit space on Brentford’s right flank, leading to a swift combination play culminating in Jarrod Bowen slotting the ball past Mark Flekken at the near post. The Bees’ woes continued as they lost possession near the halfway line, allowing Vladimir Coufal to set up Bowen for his second goal within the first seven minutes of the match.
Despite the early setbacks, Brentford showed resilience and managed to claw their way back into the game with a goal from Neal Maupay, expertly set up by Keane Lewis-Potter. However, their attacking efforts remained largely subdued, failing to trouble the opposing goalkeeper.
The match was effectively decided in a six-minute flurry during the second half, starting with Bowen completing his hat-trick with another unmarked header from Mohammed Kudus’ delivery. Although Brentford’s Frank Onyeka came close to narrowing the deficit, West Ham solidified their victory when Emerson Palmieri struck a sensational fourth goal from long range.
