Report: 27-year-old will play this season, as Everton is considering offering him a new deal
For the most part, Dele Alli’s tenure at Everton has been forgettable.
The 27-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur in January 2022 and relocated to Goodison Park.
The two clubs are reportedly still negotiating the terms of the agreement, according to The Mirror. Additionally, there have been rumors that Tottenham is willing to cut the cost by £8 million. According to The Times, they are amenable to lowering the minimum number of appearances needed before Everton must make a payment.
The fact that Alli’s injury has ruined her 2023–24 season hasn’t helped things either. The midfield player went back to training in December, but he just had another injury.
Sean Dyche said following his groin surgery last month that it will take some time for him to recover completely.
“We’ll observe. There is still much to be done. We decided to give him time and space, which is why we’ve purposefully held him back. We just don’t know, but maybe he’ll be back,” Dyche stated (via The Daily Mail).
He now has the seclusion he requires thanks to us. He is in excellent physical condition. We had a nice, lengthy talk when I recently chatted with him.
On the other hand, perhaps there was now some hope.
Hope for Dele Alli’s Everton injury
Many believed that Dyche’s prospects of playing this season were poor following his most recent update.
Given that the midfielder’s contract was scheduled to end in the summer of 2024, it wasn’t out of the question to speculate that he had played his final game.
There is, nevertheless, some light at the end of the tunnel.
Alli’s return before the 2023–2024 season ends cannot be totally ruled out, according to The Athletic, even though he needs to be gradually introduced back into the mix.
In addition, it’s said that the midfield player wants to stay in the Premier League and that Everton is willing to offer him a new contract when his current one expires.
Everton should be commended.
Alli’s situation has been brilliantly handled by Everton, especially since his return from his turbulent loan spell in Turkey.
It’s possible that the club’s tolerance ran thin, but that couldn’t be further from the reality. There is a sense of solidarity and optimism that Alli will eventually revert to his former self as one of Europe’s top young players.
If he can become even half of the player he once was, he has every opportunity to contribute if given new terms on Merseyside’s blue side.
