If bought out, the Celtics will sign a former champion: Report
The Boston Celtics have been interested in Otto Porter Jr. since February 8, when Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports first revealed him as one of their targets. Even though they were unable to capture him, they are still going after him.
Porter Jr. is currently employed by the Jazz, but there’s a chance they might buy him out. The Arizona Sports 98.7 radio presenter John Gambadoro said that the Celtics will be interested in him if they do. They are not alone, though.
“The Clippers, Celtics, and Suns are the teams that have expressed interest in Porter.” stated Gambadoro.
Gambadoro stated that they were still interested, but added that it might be in vain because Porter Jr. might miss the remainder of the season.
Otto Porter Jr. is a player who the Celtics and Clippers are interested in, but he hasn’t requested a buyout or to be waived yet. It’s possible that he will not play again this season.
Due to injuries, Porter has found it difficult to play all two seasons. Over the previous two seasons, he has appeared in 23 games with the Raptors total. That followed a largely successful season with the Warriors in which he contributed to their second championship.
Jazz Has Recalled Otto Porter Jr.
Otto Porter Jr. has been sent home by the Jazz to consider his options, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.
The Utah Jazz player Otto Porter Jr. has decided to assess his options for the rest of the season and will not be playing with the team on Thursday night when they take on the Charlotte Hornets to begin the second half of their schedule, according to a piece published by Jones on February 21.
Jones added that he is in good health despite his restricted availability.
“League sources say that Porter, 30, is in good health and ready to play. He might choose to accept the Jazz’s contract buyout, which would free him to join with another team. In order to be qualified to participate in the postseason, Porter would need to sign with a different team before March 1.
Porter is not a very useful player for the Jazz. Four of the games are not play-in contests. In addition, the Rockets’ deficit over them for the No. 11 seed is only 1.5 games.
Odds on Otto Porter Jr. Joining the Clippers
When Otto Porter Jr. becomes available, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report outlined his thoughts on why he thinks Porter would sign with the Clippers.
Porter may be found in a lot of areas.but in terms of competing for a championship and landing a somewhat regular role, the Los Angeles Clippers might present him with the best opportunity, according to Buckley’s report from February 27. “If he’s healthy, he could give them a lot of the frontcourt flexibility and three-and-D play they hoped to squeeze out of P.J. Tucker,” the statement reads. “He may not handle nightly minutes in Hollywood.”
Porter would need to be made available by the Clippers waiving someone from their roster. On the other hand, the Celtics can use their final open roster space to add him.
