‘Long absence’ – Doctor issues report as West Brom player might be forced to retire
Dr Rajpal Brar said the West Brom defender is facing an injury setback but is unlikely to have to retire from football.
According to the injury expert, recuperating after an ACL rupture can be difficult at times, especially as training progresses.
The 33-year-old is unlikely to return to first-team training for the next few weeks after suffering a setback in his recuperation.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News about Kelly’s condition, Brar, a Physical Therapist and Sports Scientist, said:
“These ailments are not unexpected after such a long absence.
“In Kelly’s situation, it’s an ACL rupture, and increasing intensity always has implications.
“It doesn’t sound like something that would lead to retirement, but I can’t go inside the player’s head to see how he feels about it.
“He’s perhaps unlikely to train for the next few weeks.”
Kelly is about to be out of contract with West Brom.
At the time of his injury in February, he was expected to be out for the following 10 weeks, which would put him out until May.
The right-back’s contract with the Hawthorns expires in the summer, and he is unlikely to be extended.

West Brom play their home games at the Hawthorns.
He hasn’t played a single game for Carlos Corberan’s team this season, and his lack of availability is a major concern.
