Cowboys lose another man after Tyron Smith news
Fans of the Dallas Cowboys were already shocked to learn over the weekend that Tyron Smith, their star left tackle of thirteen years, is not expected to play for the team again in 2019. It appears that Smith won’t be the lone starter on the offensive line of the Cowboys to depart in free agency.
According to Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News, Tyler Biadasz, who has started for Dallas for the past three seasons as a center, is expected to sign a second contract elsewhere.
This is somewhat unexpected, particularly in light of the Tyron Smith revelation. The Cowboys now need to replace two starting offensive linemen, which isn’t an easy chore when you don’t have a lot of cap space.
“The Cowboys don’t think they’re in a position to compete financially on the open market for Biadasz’s services… That isn’t seen as a judgment on Biadasz, who is valued for his study habits, toughness, effort, and general consistency in addition to his output level.”
Biadasz, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, has impressed since taking the spot of Travis Frederick, a fan favorite.
Biadasz’s open market worth is $4.9 million according to Over The Cap. An even higher pick might be made by a team with cap room and an O-line need. This would make it too expensive for the Cowboys, who might choose to replace him with a less expensive option, such as Brock Hoffman or T.J. Bass, or draft a center like Jackson Powers-Johnson.
2024 will undoubtedly see a much different offensive unit from the one that plays center in the Cowboys’ current lineup. The Cowboys are attempting to make the elusive Super Bowl appearance, thus they will need them to play at a high level. They have the fifth-best odds (+1300) to win the Super Bowl the following season on FanDuel Sportsbook.
