The £23 million star that Wolves sold is now worth less than Kilman, so they hit gold.

Wolverhampton Wanderers made a shrewd decision by offloading a £23 million star, whose current value has plummeted below that of Max Kilman. Despite Kilman’s rise, the Premier League defender has faced a challenging season with his current club.

Gary O’Neil’s team climbed the Premier League standings with a 2-1 victory over Fulham at the Molineux Stadium. This win followed a disappointing 3-0 loss to Newcastle United, showcasing the team’s resilience under the former Bournemouth head coach.

O’Neil’s impact since joining last summer has been commendable, especially considering Wolves’ need to address financial constraints by selling several key players during the transfer window.

Although players like Matheus Nunes, Conor Coady, Raul Jimenez, Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, and Ryan Giles were offloaded, O’Neil has guided the team to eighth place after 28 matches.

However, not all departing players have found success elsewhere, with Nathan Collins notably struggling since his move. Despite his £20.5 million transfer from Burnley in 2022, Collins failed to establish himself as a standout performer at Wolves, ranking modestly in defensive and possession metrics.

Despite a respectable yet unremarkable stint with Wolves, Brentford decided to invest £23 million in Collins ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Unfortunately, his debut season with the Bees has been disappointing, marked by poor performances both defensively and in possession, leading to a decline in market value.

In contrast, Max Kilman’s value has surged to £22 million, surpassing Collins’ current worth. Kilman has been a stalwart presence in Wolves’ defense, showcasing superior performance metrics and reliability compared to his former teammate.

This turnaround in fortunes highlights Wolves’ astute decision to sell Collins, whose struggles at Brentford underscore the wisdom of that transaction.
