Former Cardiff City manager makes major managerial decision
Neil Warnock has announced his departure as the manager of Aberdeen, despite leading the team to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. The legendary coach took over on an interim basis in February and guided the Dons to the last four of the cup competition. However, Aberdeen’s league form did not improve under Warnock, with the team currently sitting in 10th position in the Scottish Premiership.
Warnock’s exit comes as a surprise, but it appears to pave the way for a successor, with Aberdeen already in advanced stages of finding a replacement. Chairman Dave Cormack expressed gratitude to Warnock and his assistant Ronnie Jepson for their efforts, while confirming that Peter Leven will oversee first-team matters until a new manager is appointed.
In his farewell statement, Warnock expressed his honor at leading Aberdeen, despite the brevity of his tenure. He acknowledged the disappointment of not achieving more league wins but highlighted his satisfaction at reaching the Scottish Cup semi-final. Warnock also thanked the fans for their support and wished the club and supporters well for the future.
Reflecting on his time at Aberdeen, Warnock admitted to ups and downs and expressed uncertainty about his future in management. At 75 years old, he acknowledged the unpredictability of life and remained open to the possibility of further managerial opportunities, despite considering retirement on previous occasions.
