‘Confirmed’;Manchester United is hoping that in the summer transfer window, West Ham United will acquire Scott McTominay…

West Ham expresses interest in acquiring the services of Scott McTominay from Manchester United.

Manchester United anticipates that West Ham United will revisit their interest in Scott McTominay during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the Red Devils aim to generate £100 million through player sales to facilitate their own transfer ambitions for the summer. This information, reported by iNews on March 13th, suggests that Manchester United might consider selling some of their academy prospects to meet their financial targets.

Mason Greenwood is identified as one potential departure, while Manchester United also perceives McTominay as a “replaceable” player, hoping that West Ham could renew their pursuit of him after having a bid turned down last year.

Despite Manchester United’s willingness to part with McTominay, West Ham United may not necessarily require his services. While McTominay has showcased promise at Old Trafford this season with notable goal contributions, he hasn’t solidified a regular role in midfield. His playing style, however, could potentially align better with David Moyes’ preferences compared to Erik Ten Hag’s. Nonetheless, acquiring McTominay might not be the optimal investment for West Ham, as he is seen by some as a less refined version of Tomas Soucek.

McTominay’s strengths lie in his physical attributes, including his athleticism, aerial ability, and robustness. However, he is perceived to have limitations in his technical skills. Given the desire of many fans to see David Moyes move on in the summer, pursuing McTominay may not be the strategic direction the club should pursue. West Ham has demonstrated adeptness in scouting talent from the European market in recent years, and there are likely more suitable options available for a lesser financial outlay. The indication that Manchester United is open to letting him go further suggests that West Ham should explore alternative targets rather than pursuing McTominay.
