Ally Robertson: Now fully complete the West Brom dream
Albion legend Ally Robertson has expressed his admiration for owner Shilen Patel’s commitment to the club, urging Carlos Corberan’s side to target promotion to repay Patel for his support.
Patel, who took over from Guochuan Lai in February, inherited significant debts but endeared himself to Albion’s fans by paying off a £5 million loan, along with substantial interest, created by Lai.
Robertson, a former defender for the club, praised Patel’s transparency and involvement since taking charge, contrasting it with the previous owner’s lack of engagement. He sees Patel’s actions as a positive step forward for the club and hopes the team can achieve promotion as a gesture of gratitude.
“It’s great for us as supporters to see someone come in and actively contribute to the club,” said Robertson. “If we can repay Patel’s support by securing promotion to the Premier League this season, it would be a fantastic way to show our appreciation.”
Robertson, who often engages with fans at The Hawthorns, senses a renewed sense of optimism among supporters since Patel’s arrival. He acknowledges that rebuilding the club will take time but believes Patel’s efforts are a step in the right direction.
“The club won’t be rebuilt overnight, but Patel seems committed to the task,” Robertson remarked. “There’s a palpable sense of relief among supporters knowing that we finally have someone who cares about the club’s future.”
As Albion’s squad prepares for upcoming fixtures, including a match against Millwall on Good Friday, international action has seen several players representing their countries. Loan striker Andi Weimann scored for Austria, while academy graduate Tom Fellows impressed on his England under-20s debut. Semi Ajayi featured for Nigeria, while loanee Mikey Johnston and Callum Marshall were involved with their respective national teams.
The collective effort both on and off the pitch reflects a renewed sense of optimism and determination within the Albion community, fueled by Patel’s commitment to the club’s success.
