Bills in other to bring in depth along the defensive front, strikes a deal with 31 year old former UDFA

The Buffalo Bills have bolstered their defensive front by signing DeShawn Williams to a one-year contract, as announced by the team. Williams, aged 31, brings depth and experience to the lineup.

Williams’ professional journey began with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016, but he saw limited regular season action until 2020 when he joined the Denver Broncos. During his three-year tenure with the Broncos, Williams started in 34 out of 46 games, showcasing his ability with a career-high 4.5 sacks in his final season before moving on to the Carolina Panthers.

In Carolina, Williams started 10 out of 16 games, playing alongside Derrick Brown and contributing significantly with 33 tackles and one sack. Despite a slight drop in sack numbers, he achieved a personal best in quarterback pressures, indicating his effectiveness as a rotational player. Williams aims to replicate this level of performance in Buffalo.

The Bills faced uncertainties in their defensive interior prior to free agency. While DaQuan Jones was retained on a two-year deal and Austin Johnson was also added, Williams joins the roster to provide further depth alongside Ed Oliver, who remains with the team through 2027 after signing a lucrative extension last offseason.

With just under $9 million in cap space before the signings of Johnson and Williams, the Bills have invested in experienced depth for their defensive line. This move reflects their transition to incorporating new contributors across various defensive positions.
