Sunderland to implement ‘top-quality’ Boca Juniors style floodlights as part of Stadium of Light revamp
Sunderland AFC is gearing up for a significant revamp of the Stadium of Light, with plans to install a state-of-the-art floodlight system used by prestigious clubs like Boca Juniors. The club’s owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, announced a series of improvements aimed at enhancing the matchday experience for loyal supporters, marking the largest investment in the stadium in over two decades.
Among the planned upgrades are the installation of 3,000 safe-standing spaces, a new PA system, undersoil heating, and new floodlights. Sunderland will be installing brand new LED floodlights from Thorn Lighting, known for their high-quality and future-proof lighting solutions.
The chosen floodlights, the Thorn Atlis model, are similar to those utilized at Estadio Alberto José Armando, home to Boca Juniors, as well as at the Mewa Arena of German Bundesliga club Mainz. Thorn Lighting specializes in customized illumination systems for various indoor and outdoor facilities, prioritizing low energy consumption, easy maintenance, and aesthetic appeal.
The new floodlight system aims to highlight the action on the pitch and enhance the overall stadium experience for fans. With modern lighting solutions designed to meet the needs of large-scale stadiums, Sunderland looks to elevate its matchday atmosphere with top-quality lighting technology.
