Sunderland makes transfer stance to Premier League clubs planning summer bids
Mike Dodds, Sunderland’s interim head coach, has issued a warning to Premier League clubs eyeing Sunderland’s top talent, emphasizing that any potential deals will come at a premium.
With players like Jack Clarke, Dan Neil, Dan Ballard, and Anthony Patterson attracting interest from top-flight clubs, Dodds stressed that Sunderland holds a strong position due to the lengthy contracts these players are under.
He emphasized that Sunderland’s stance is clear: any club looking to sign their players will need to pay a premium, considering the players’ potential for further development, their current performance, and the time remaining on their contracts.
Jack Clarke, in particular, is expected to garner significant attention in the summer transfer window, with interest from various top-flight and overseas clubs. However, Dodds indicated that Sunderland is unlikely to budge from their current wage structure, potentially impacting Clarke’s decision on a new deal.
Despite speculation surrounding the players, Dodds asserted that there are no wantaway players in the Sunderland dressing room. He reassured that club chiefs will stand firm in their valuation of players, prioritizing the team’s interests.
Looking ahead to the summer, Dodds acknowledged the need to strengthen the squad, particularly in areas where improvement is necessary compared to previous seasons. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a cohesive squad and affirmed that Sunderland’s policy regarding player transfers will remain consistent.
