One player nottingham Forest must offload soon to avoid future disappointment..
Nuno Espírito Santo, the manager of Nottingham Forest, is facing a challenge with a player who hasn’t been involved in matches since January. Despite their recent win against Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest’s position in the Premier League is precarious, hovering just three points above the relegation zone with only two games left in the season. The team’s four-point deduction earlier in the season has intensified the threat of relegation, despite significant investment from owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Although Nottingham Forest’s recent performance has been poor, Nuno has been trying to establish a consistent lineup that could help the team avoid trouble next season if they remain in the top flight. However, one player has been notably absent from the squad since January, coinciding with the arrival of another key player.
Odysseas Vlachodimos, the goalkeeper signed from Benfica for £7.7 million, had hoped to become Nottingham Forest’s top goalkeeper despite competition from Matt Turner, who joined shortly before him. Despite making his debut in November and keeping a clean sheet against Aston Villa, Vlachodimos has seen a significant decrease in playing time since the start of the year.
Under Nuno’s management, Vlachodimos has only started twice, both times in the FA Cup against Blackpool, while new signing Matz Sels has started every Premier League match since his arrival in January. Vlachodimos now finds himself as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Sels and Turner, not even making the matchday squad since January.
Given his lack of playing time and high wages of £45,000 per week, amounting to £2.3 million per year, Nottingham Forest may need to consider offloading Vlachodimos in the summer transfer window to alleviate financial pressure and avoid penalties for breaching Premier League spending rules. Despite initially being seen as a promising signing, Vlachodimos’ tenure at the club has been disappointing, costing over £10 million including transfer fee and wages for this season alone.
As the deadline for the Premier League spending rules approaches on June 30th, Nottingham Forest must prioritize raising funds, and Vlachodimos may also seek a move elsewhere to secure regular first-team opportunities.
