West Brom and Birmingham City plan a transfer raid for a Sheffield Wednesday pair
Two Sheffield Wednesday players have been linked to moves from Birmingham City and West Brom.
This season, the Blues will compete in League One, and the Baggies and Southampton play-off match is evenly balanced following a goalless draw at the Hawthorns. Even though the regular season concluded a little more than a week ago, the rumors are already flying high, and we now know of two possible transfers that could happen this summer.
Birmingham is reportedly considering signing George Byers for the upcoming campaign, according to our colleagues at The Star. This season, his contract at Hillsborough expires, and it’s unknown what lies ahead for him.
The Owls first stated that they would prefer to keep Byers, but in January, he was loaned out to Blackpool. The 27-year-old played in 16 games for the Seasiders this season, helping them to an eighth-place League One finish. It is said that they would like to keep him. The Star lists Oxford United and Bolton Wanderers as having made inquiries, while Birmingham, Huddersfield Town, Rotherham United, and Barnsley are listed as interested teams.
Having played for Blackpool, Portsmouth, and the Owls in League One, he has a respectable amount of experience in the league. In his 76 games in the third division, Byers has contributed 12 goals and seven assists; however, during his most recent stint at Bloomfield Road, he only scored one goal. Earlier in the season, he did hit the scoreboard against Birmingham, scoring in the 2-1 loss that marked Wayne Rooney’s first victory as manager back in November.
Although Byers’s contract expires this summer, negotiations are in progress to keep the 30-year-old in South Yorkshire. In 25 appearances this season, he scored six goals and provided two assists, making him a fan favorite.
Windass has played in the second division of English football for the majority of his career, amassing 27 goals and 12 assists in 129 games. Despite his side finishing last, he had his greatest season in 2020–21, scoring nine goals and dishing out six assists.
