Good news: Nottingham forest key man on loan claims his comeback will be loud…
This summer, the talented player who impressed with his skills will be returning to Nottingham Forest. Joe Worrall, the captain of Nottingham Forest, embarked on a loan move to Besiktas in January. However, recent developments shed light on his future. The first half of the season didn’t go smoothly for the central defender. Reports suggested that Worrall was displeased when Steve Cooper excluded him from the Forest squad for a match against Aston Villa in November. By the time the January transfer window arrived, he wasn’t getting much game time, and Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t include him in his plans.
During the 2023/24 campaign, Worrall made only seven appearances in the Premier League, accumulating 439 minutes on the field. His move to Besiktas on loan seemed promising, but updates from Turkey indicate otherwise. Reports from the Turkish outlet Milliyet reveal that Besiktas has opted not to retain Worrall, declining the option to purchase him from Forest.
This decision leaves Worrall in a challenging position, and it appears likely that he will return to Forest for pre-season training. This outcome isn’t surprising, considering his limited involvement with Besiktas since his arrival. Despite making just eight appearances for the team, with a recent instance of being an unused substitute against Alanyaspor, Worrall did manage to make a memorable impact by scoring a last-minute winner against Rizespor, even with Jonjo Shelvey on the opposing team.
With uncertainties surrounding other defenders at Forest, including Murillo’s potential departure, Felipe’s retirement, and Willy Boly’s contract situation, Worrall might have an opportunity to prove himself under Espirito Santo’s management ahead of the upcoming season. Having risen through the academy ranks, Worrall has contributed significantly to Forest, making 226 appearances for the club and playing a pivotal role in their promotion.
Despite the disagreement between Worrall and Cooper, the latter had previously praised Worrall as ‘incredible.’ Now, Forest faces a significant decision regarding Worrall’s future, especially in light of Besiktas’ decision. Financial Fair Play considerations could influence Forest’s stance, with the club possibly opting to retain Worrall to save costs or deciding to sell him to streamline the squad.
Given Worrall’s contributions to Forest, the outcome of this situation will be intriguing to observe during the summer transfer window.
