In a trade with the Texas Rangers, the Miami Marlins acquired a pitcher with South Florida origins
Shaun Anderson, a right-handed pitcher, was acquired by the Miami Marlins on Thursday from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash. His option has been sent to Jacksonville, Triple A. Anderson was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Sunday.
Since making his MLB debut in 2019, the 29-year-old Anderson—a Coral Springs native who attended Plantation American Heritage for his prep career and the University of Florida for his college career—has made 65 career appearances (16 starts), going 3-5 with a 5.83 ERA.
\this season, giving up two runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched while striking out three and walking one. During his tenure at Triple-A Round Rock, he was 3-0 in four games (all starts) with a 2.53 ERA (six earned runs over 21 1/3 innings) and 22 strikeouts against four walks.
After stints with the San Francisco Giants (2019–2020), Minnesota Twins (2021), Baltimore Orioles (2021), San Diego Padres (2021), Toronto Blue Jays (2022), and Rangers (2024), Anderson is now a member of the Marlins, his sixth Major League Baseball franchise. Before shipping him to San Francisco in July 2017, the Boston Red Sox selected him in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of UF. One of the players acquired in the Luis Arraez trade with the Padres, right-handed pitcher Woo-Suk Go, was designated for assignment by the Marlins to create space on the 40-man roster.
