Nottingham Forest is reportedly considering a transfer move for a World Cup star.
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are reportedly competing to sign right-back Saud Abdulhamid, highlighting a potential transfer battle between the two clubs.
Abdulhamid, aged 24, has been turning heads as a standout player for the highly successful Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal clinched the championship with an impressive record of 31 wins and three draws in 34 games this season.
He also played a crucial role for Saudi Arabia during the 2022 World Cup and contributed to his club’s advancement to the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League.
With just one year remaining on his contract, Abdulhamid is reportedly eager to fulfill his career aspiration of moving to Europe. Toulouse has shown interest, and now reports suggest that Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are also in the mix to secure a deal this summer.
Al-Hilal is open to the idea of letting the talented defender go, especially since discussions regarding a contract renewal have not progressed significantly.
They are part of the Saudi Pro League clubs, with 75% ownership by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which also holds an 80% stake in Newcastle United.
Among Abdulhamid’s teammates are former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves and ex-Newcastle and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is representing Serbia against England in the Euros.
During the past season, Nuno Espirito Santo utilized Neco Williams, Serge Aurier, Gonzalo Montiel, and Ola Aina at right-back for Forest.
Although Williams was sidelined due to injury towards the end of the season, he, like Aina, possesses versatility to play on either flank and is valued as a crucial player at the City Ground
