Ally McCoist- Why I would love to see Luton town get promoted again…
Ally McCoist Issues Promotion Predictions for Leeds United, West Brom, and Luton Town
Less than a month has passed since the play-off final, but the focus has already shifted to the upcoming 2024/25 season. Clubs across the country have begun preparing for the new campaign.
Predicting which teams will be in the running for promotion at this point in the season is always challenging. However, it is expected that the clubs relegated from the Premier League will be contenders, alongside Leeds United, who were defeated in the play-off final at the end of May.
As demonstrated by Ipswich Town last season, there is often an unexpected team that emerges. Few predicted Ipswich would secure promotion last year, indicating that there will likely be many surprises in the coming months.
The final composition of each squad will not be known until the transfer window closes in August, and this will significantly influence each team’s chances of promotion. Nevertheless, many have already started making their predictions.
Ally McCoist’s Championship Promotion Predictions
Ally McCoist, a former professional footballer and manager turned pundit, has shared his early predictions for Championship promotion, bringing encouraging news for Leeds United fans.
McCoist stated, “I’d firstly go with Leeds. I think they’ll build on the disappointment of the playoff final defeat. They could easily falter, but I don’t think they will – their support won’t allow it. I can see them getting promoted.”
Regarding the relegated Premier League clubs, McCoist is not optimistic about Sheffield United’s chances but sees potential in Luton Town following their spirited campaign in the top flight.
He remarked, “I don’t see Sheffield United coming back up, but I would love to see Luton Town get promoted again. Despite their relegation, they put up a good fight last season. Burnley and Sheffield United struggled, but Luton consistently posed a challenge to their opponents. If they maintain their spirit and home advantage, I think they can achieve promotion. I’d love to see them succeed – I enjoyed their performances despite their relegation.”
McCoist also anticipates a stronger challenge from West Brom next season. “I expect a more consistent challenge from West Brom. They were close last season, and I believe they can dig deeper and achieve promotion. If I had to choose, I’d say West Brom, Luton, and Leeds.”
The 2024/25 Championship Season Appears Wide Open
The relegated trio of Sheffield United, Burnley, and Luton do not seem as formidable as Leeds, Southampton, and Leicester did the previous season. This could open up opportunities for other clubs to compete for promotion.
While the relegated clubs could dominate the league, it would be surprising if there was a significant gap between them and the other teams, unlike in the 2023/24 season.
Upper mid-table clubs that missed out on the play-offs last season will view the upcoming season as an opportunity to break into the top six and compete for promotion. This season appears to be an ideal time for teams throughout the division to aim for promotion.
With the season starting on August 10th and many player transfers expected before then, the 2024/25 season is shaping up to be an open and unpredictable campaign, with many surprises likely along the way.
