Report: Lopetegui wants significant changes, and the 28-year-old player reportedly wants to leave West Ham

During the summer transfer window, West Ham intends to entirely revamp their defensive lineup.

The Hammers let up 74 goals in the 2023–24 campaign, therefore Julen Lopetegui reportedly wants to add three new defenders in the summer transfer window, according to a story from The Times (June 21).

The club has released Angelo Ogbonna after his contract has come to an end. As he struggles to stay match-fit every week, Kurt Zouma is up for sale, and Nayef Aguerd wishes to leave the team this summer.

Last summer, Saudi Arabia showed interest in the 28-year-old defender. Although West Ham has not yet received any proposals for him, it is still anticipated that he will go.

Luis Guilherme will join West Ham for a reported £25.5 million, and the team also hopes to acquire four players before preseason play begins.

Significant adjustments are required at the back.

Although David Moyes has done an excellent job leading the team, Lopetegui will believe that he needs to make several changes, particularly to the defense.

To be honest, he didn’t inherit a particularly strong team. It’s possible that West Ham will need to bring in new full-backs, strikers, attacking midfielders, backup goalkeepers, and a ton of central defenders.

Wes Foderingham will finish his physical within the next week after the Hammers and his representative came to an agreement on a free transfer.

In 2022, Aguerd signed a lucrative contract to join the team from the French team Rennes. He was in the treatment room most of the time, but he finished the season strong, scoring two goals in thirty games.

Although he has been mediocre the entire season, everyone was expecting him to improve from previous season. He only made 28 appearances, therefore if West Ham receives a strong offer from a Saudi Pro League team, they will most likely not think twice about selling him.
