Report: Nottingham Forest struggling to sell top player as he craves huge wage elsewhere
Joe Worrall is a Nottingham Forest fan at heart, but it appears that his time with the team may be coming to an end.
The center back is currently on loan at Forest after spending the second half of the previous campaign at Besiktas.
It looks like Nuno Espirito Santo won’t include him in his team for the upcoming campaign, and his departure seems imminent.
Worrall progressed through the club’s academy systems and was a key member of the squad that was promoted to the Premier League during the 2021–2022 season.
The 27-year-old will now want to sign with a new team prior to the start of the season as Forest looks to reorganize their roster.
The report explains why Joe Worrall hasn’t been sold by Nottingham Forest yet. The club plans to unload a number of players this summer, and Worrall is one of those who has been judged surplus to needs.
But the Sunday Mirror claims that Worrall is largely to blame for the fact that he hasn’t been sold yet.
They say that although the player is eager to stay in England, clubs have not been able to meet his wage demands.
In the second half of the season, Worrall failed to get into the game in Turkey, despite helping Besiktas win the Turkish Cup.
As things stand, the central defender will report back for preseason training, but Forest is willing to take offers for his services that total roughly £4 million.
Worrall needs to be sold by Forest as soon as feasible.
With Forest having made £20 million, the Reds are under pressure to make their deadline of June 30.
They would be in compliance with PSR and would not lose any more points for a second straight season if they reached that threshold.
Worrall has to be removed from the roster as soon as possible because he is currently lower on the Trentside hierarchy.
It seems that the defender is refusing to take a pay cut, which is making it more difficult to get him to leave the team.
Worrall is a Forest man at heart, so maybe saying goodbye to the City Ground will be a little tedious for him.
But the guy is a good defender, especially at the Championship level, so maybe he may find a new team in the upcoming days or weeks before the season starts.
