Done deal: Leeds United make enquiry to sign ‘excellent’ Premier League defender, he’s keen on move…

Leeds United have shown interest in acquiring a skilled Premier League defender and have made an inquiry to sign him on loan from Chelsea ahead of the transfer window. The club is looking to strengthen its right-sided defense, a priority that has emerged due to recent departures and loan expirations.

Connor Roberts, who had a loan spell at Elland Road, has returned to Burnley and might play against Leeds next season. Additionally, Joe Rodon has left the club. While Leeds is interested in bringing Rodon back, securing his transfer would require a £10 million fee to Tottenham. Luke Ayling has permanently departed, and Jamie Shackleton is expected to leave by the end of the month. Sam Byram remains on the team, but Leeds needs a new right-back and a replacement for Rodon for the upcoming season.

Since the end of the season, Leeds has been linked with Chelsea right-back Alfie Gilchrist, who made 17 senior appearances for Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino. Earlier in the season, Jamie Redknapp praised Gilchrist, calling him an “excellent” defender. Gilchrist is now seeking more playing time and is reportedly interested in moving to Elland Road to help with Leeds’ promotion push to the Premier League. Gilchrist can play both as a right-back and a central defender.

Leeds might have an advantage in their pursuit of Gilchrist due to a connection with his representation. According to Transfermarkt, Gilchrist is represented by Louie Anthony Sports Ltd., the same company that represents former Leeds manager Jesse Marsch. This prior relationship could facilitate negotiations for Gilchrist’s transfer.

Among the three clubs interested in Gilchrist, Leeds is believed to be the most appealing option for the defender, provided the club can assure him sufficient playing time to entice him to move to Yorkshire this summer.
