After leaving, the 24-year-old star’s father sends Sheffield Wednesday a “wonderful” message
After eleven years, Ciaran Brennan has decided to leave Sheffield Wednesday.
Seven years after joining Sheffield Wednesday’s academy, the defender made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup.
Brennan played mostly on loan at Wednesday during the 2021–22 season, however he did have a brief stint in the starting lineup.
The 24-year-old has played for Swindon Town, Hartlepool United, Notts County, Gainsborough Trinity, and most recently, returned to Hillsborough in January.
Brennan’s last game for the Owls was in January 2022, and he was unaware of this at the time. He has since formally left the team on a free transfer.
The center defender moved quickly to find a new team, and Newport County of League Two confirmed his signing yesterday.
Sheffield Wednesday departure is addressed by Brennan’s father
Brennan’s father, who has lived on Middlewood Road for the most of his life, has now thanked Wednesday on social media.
He posted on X, saying, “It was an absolute honor to thank literally hundreds of people @swfc – coaches & staff through academy & first team & so many great team mates They have helped & educated Ciaran in so many ways.” “Ten years of contributing to this wonderful club week in & out.”
The Owls let go of another academy graduate
Brennan, who only managed to make 47 appearances in his career overall. In the four years that followed his senior debut, he only made 18 appearances for Wednesday.
The defender’s departure comes at a crucial moment as he attempts to finally launch his career, since he has seldom been able to secure consistent playing time, even while on loan.
Several players, including the former Republic of Ireland U19 international, helped to end a troubled period in Sheffield. Danny Rohl is now keen to rekindle the club’s passion and bring in some new players.
Brennan joins the dead wood clearing out alongside people like Tyreeq Bakinson, Lee Gregory, and Reece James.
