Celtic FC in transfer face off with Leeds United and European club for star
Celtic is adopting a patient approach to recruitment, waiting for suitable targets to become available. After clinching the Scottish Premiership title last season, they aim to repeat their success in the upcoming season.
In the latest transfer update involving the Glasgow giants, SportsWorldGhana reports that Celtic are interested in signing Edmund Baidoo, an attacker from Sogndal Fotball.
However, they face competition as Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion are also pursuing him. Brighton’s interest comes as they look to strengthen their squad under new manager Fabian Hürzeler, who recently took over from Roberto De Zerbi.
Leeds United, who are staying in the Championship after losing the playoff final to Southampton at Wembley, have also shown interest in Baidoo. Daniel Farke is set to continue as their manager. Additionally, Club Brugge in Belgium has been mentioned as another potential destination.
Celtic views Baidoo as a promising long-term addition who could potentially break into their first team. However, they face stiff competition from other clubs in their pursuit of his signature.
At just 18 years old, Baidoo has already established himself as a key player in the second tier of Norwegian football with Sogndal Fotball.
His impressive season statistics include nine goals and seven assists, and he is contracted with the club until 2027, indicating there’s no urgency for Sogndal to sell him unless the right offer comes along.
Celtic, despite being inactive in the transfer market so far this summer, haven’t made any signings yet. Former striker Chris Sutton has recently voiced concern, suggesting that Celtic shouldn’t let the summer pass without addressing their transfer needs, stating, “It’s all quiet at Parkhead on the transfer front but they can’t allow the summer to drift as there’s work to be done.”
“Rodgers will assess his needs, but he may consider adding another striker to his list with Oh Hyeon-gyu possibly leaving. Personally, I believe it would be a loss if he departs, as there’s potential in him despite needing further development.
“Even if Oh’s return isn’t certain, Celtic will still require additional forwards. To compete across multiple competitions next season, they may need three to four strikers. Securing quality strikers often requires patience, as every club is in search of them.”
“But Celtic can’t afford to delay either. If their primary targets aren’t available, they should swiftly move on to secondary options. With a trip to the US scheduled in mid-July, Rodgers will be eager to have new signings integrated into the squad.”
“Sutton rightly highlighted Celtic’s need for more competition and depth in attack. Despite his youth, Baidoo could offer valuable backup.”
“However, Brighton and Leeds are also in the mix and could entice him with offers to join their clubs instead of Glasgow.”
