Welcome: Portsmouth unveil promising ex-Colchester youngster as third signing of transfer window…
Portsmouth FC has announced the signing of a promising young player from Colchester as their third acquisition of the transfer window.
Pompey has signed a talented prospect from non-league football as their third addition of the summer. Reuben Swann, a midfielder from AFC Sudbury, has joined the club for an undisclosed fee, agreeing to a two-year contract with an option for the club to extend.
At 18 years old, Swann made his first-team debut for Sudbury in March 2023. Prior to that, he was with Colchester but was released when he was 16.
His performances for Sudbury in the Southern League Premier Central caught the attention of Portsmouth, leading to a trial with the club in November.
Pompey has now acted on their interest by signing Swann, who will join the club alongside fellow new recruits Jordan Williams and Josh Murphy.
Swann expressed his excitement on the club’s website, saying, “It’s a proud moment for me – and my family – to sign my first professional contract with Pompey. I’m happy to get things over the line and now I’m excited to start training with the rest of the team soon. The manager told me that this club is moving in the right direction and I’m just so thankful to be here. I’m grateful to the coaches and my team-mates at Sudbury and now this is a big step up for me – but I’m confident I can meet the demands. This is everything I’ve worked hard for since I was a kid and so I’m fully focused on what’s to come for me. I like to attack but can play anywhere in midfield. I want to keep developing my game and improving as a footballer, which I believe I can do here.”
Pompey’s pre-season activities will start on Thursday morning with two days of testing, followed by the resumption of training on Monday, July 1.
