Done Deal: Aston Villa new target completes criterias to stay at Villa Park…
Fabrizio Romano Reports on Enzo Barrenechea’s Medical Completion for Aston Villa
Aston Villa have been particularly active in the transfer market over the past week. Following their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, which earned them a spot in the Champions League, they need to bolster their squad to manage the increased workload.
The club has been involved in several transfer dealings recently. They signed Lewis Dobbin from Everton, and Everton, in turn, acquired Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa. Villa is also negotiating a cash-plus-player deal with Juventus, which would send Douglas Luiz to Turin. Additionally, Ian Maatsen is reportedly close to joining Villa.
Fabrizio Romano provided an update regarding one of Villa’s transfer targets. He reported that a player has completed his medical examination at Bodymoor Heath, Aston Villa’s training ground.
Enzo Barrenechea Completes Medical for Aston Villa
The player who completed the medical is Enzo Barrenechea, an Argentine midfielder. He became a target for Villa after Weston McKennie was no longer in contention. Romano announced on social media that the 23-year-old successfully completed his medical at Villa.
Romano added that Aston Villa will soon announce Barrenechea, along with Samuel Iling-Junior and Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, as their new players.
According to BBC Sport, Aston Villa will receive approximately £18.5 million in cash, plus Barrenechea and Iling-Junior, in exchange for Douglas Luiz.
Barrenechea Compared to Top Midfielders
Enzo Barrenechea is considered a promising addition to Aston Villa. He is a talented young player with a bright future ahead, having demonstrated his abilities in Serie A last season. At 23 years old, Barrenechea can play both as a No. 6 and a No. 8. He made 36 appearances for Frosinone in Serie A last season.
Andrea Bonatti, former Juventus U19 coach, praised Barrenechea earlier this year. He described him as a “really strong” player, comparable to Rodri and Sergio Busquets. Bonatti noted that Barrenechea is a versatile playmaker who has developed into a more complete midfielder. He has the potential to excel at a high level, but he must continue to prove his abilities consistently.
