Ipswich Town Change price tag as Championship clubs eye midfielder
Last season, Ipswich Town loaned midfielder Idris El Mizouni to Leyton Orient for a second time, offering him another opportunity to secure regular playing minutes away from Portman Road.
He excelled once more with Leyton Orient, establishing himself as a dependable option at the third-tier level before an injury cut short his season. With Ipswich Town’s promotion, it’s anticipated that El Mizouni will seek a new opportunity elsewhere. These developments have garnered interest from EFL clubs, as reported by TWTD.
TWTD reports that Ipswich Town have set a price tag of approximately £350,000 for El Mizouni. Leyton Orient, his loan club, are interested but may find a permanent deal challenging at that valuation.
Meanwhile, Championship newcomers Oxford United have shown interest, and former admirers Derby County, also newly promoted, are expected to renew their pursuit of the 23-year-old midfielder.
After impressing in League Two and subsequently in League One over the past few seasons, it appears that El Mizouni is poised to take a step up in his career. Moving to the Championship could be an ideal next move for him, and a permanent transfer this time around would allow him to settle at a new club after a couple of years on loan.
From El Mizouni’s perspective, a permanent move offers stability and the chance to establish himself at a new home. For Ipswich Town, allowing him to move for a fee now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer represents savvy business.
However, this approach may potentially price Leyton Orient out of the running for a reunion with the midfielder.
Championship admirers Oxford United and Derby County will be better placed to get a deal done. It remains to be seen whether their interest is firmed up though, and it would not be a surprise if further interest emerges either.
Kicking on away from Portman Road
El Mizouni was highly regarded as a top talent at Ipswich Town, but opportunities for regular first-team action were limited, leading to his temporary spells away from the club.
During his stints with Cambridge United and Grimsby Town, it was at Leyton Orient where he truly flourished. He played a pivotal role in their promotion to League One and was instrumental in their efforts to establish themselves in the division.
It’s understandable why they would be keen to bring him back.
However, Championship interest and Ipswich Town’s £350,000 valuation could complicate Leyton Orient’s pursuit of a reunion with El Mizouni.
